Recent blushing bride Ricki-Lee Coulter had her ‘dream wedding’ and a big part of that dream becoming a reality was her good friend, celebrity hair & makeup artist Dale Dorning, being there on the day to help complete her bridal look.
“Ricki didn’t want to look back at her wedding photos and be tied to a specific year in terms of trends and fashions. She wanted her makeup and hair to look beautiful in a classic and timeless way,” says Dale.
MAKEUP
Face
To start, I applied PROOF Cosmetics Moisture Tint in Natural Glow all over Ricki’s face to provide a beautiful sheer base, before applying PROOF Cosmetics Doll Face Crème Colour to her cheeks to provide a healthy glow.
Then I applied PROOF Cosmetics Full Coverage Foundation in W8 as a concealer & therefore only where needed on key highlight areas - under eyes, sides of nose, etc.
I then applied a dusting of PROOF Cosmetics Mineral Rice Powder in Light to Ricki’s T-zone to add additional highlight to her face, before finishing with a sweep of PROOF Cosmetics Mineral Powder in Sand along Ricki’s temples and hairline to warm and sculpt her face.
Cheeks
After starting with Doll Face on Ricki’s cheeks, I simply swept a dusting of the NEW PROOF Cosmetics Mineral Shimmer Prism in Pink over top of the cheeks to give a touch of luminosity to her skin.
Eyes
Ricki has great eyes and loves to make them her stand out feature. For her bridal eyes, I began by applying PROOF Cosmetics Shadow Magnet Eye Primer, before sweeping a combination of PROOF Cosmetics Matte Shadow disc 238 and PROOF Cosmetics Shimmer Shadow in Hidden Treasure on the lower lid. To blend this combination through to the socket I used PROOF Cosmetics Shimmer Shadow in Candlelight. I then framed Ricki’s eyes using NEW improved PROOF Cosmetics Gel Liner in Black, before finishing her look by combing 3 coats of PROOF Cosmetics Lush Mascara through the lashes.
Lips
I pre-moisturised Ricki’s lips, before applying a tiny bit of foundation, and finishing off with a slick of PROOF Cosmetics Super Gloss in Super Sweet.
Hair
“Effortless glamour were the key words for the day. Ricki’s hairdo was quite neo-40s, which we were able to achieve by using Headlines Hairpieces & PPS Hairwear products,” says Dale.
Before starting, I applied PPS Silk Moisturiser to mid-lengths and ends to give her hair a boost of moisture. Then I blow-dried Ricki’s hair to stretch it out a little, using PPS Hot Iron Protector. I then hot-rollered both Ricki’s hair & the hairpieces to give them some body to work with, setting them with PPS Gloss & Fixx.
I then sectioned Ricki’s hair off across the back of the head just above both ears to clip-in Headlines Hairpieces 40cm & 50cm Volumisers for added fullness and volume. I then gathered Ricki’s hair and scooped it into a very fine hair net, pinning the net into place at the top ends of the net. I then clipped in another hairpiece over the top to disguise the hairnets and make the hair merge together for a seamless look.
I then moulded the hair into the shape I wanted with the help of PPS Xtra Shine & PPS Original Hair Lacquer, before finishing with an all-over spritz of PPS Hot Iron Top Coat.
DALE’S BRIDAL DAY
BEAUTY TIPS:
If you have dry lips, use vaseline and slough off dry skin with a baby toothbrush.
Keep blotting paper or a mineral rice powder compact/product in your bag for eradicating shine throughout the day, but retaining your skin’s luminosity.
Have a mild microdermabrasion at least 1 week before the wedding. It does wonders for your skin and gets it looking ‘fit’ for the wedding which means your makeup will look even better! Just be sure to visit someone reputable.
Keep eye drops on hand. They are a bride's best friend on the day as they keep your eyes clear.
